Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups (otherwise known as User Groups)

General information about each group is shown below. Remember, always check the calendar for changes for cancellations. All of the groups are led by volunteers. Some groups do not meet during the summer at all, and occasionally a SIG leader is ill or
has an emergency at the last minute. If you enjoy coming to any of these groups, do get on the SIG leader’s mailing list to get up to the minute information or changes.

OpenOffice suite plus much more. Now that we have started a separate Linux SIG, the FOSS SIG will now concentrate on Windows applications. See our SIG Website for an updated FOSS Finder, past SIG archives,
and the next current meeting agenda.

thieves and other famous (or infamous) ancestors”.

iPad / iPhone

Led by Tom Dixon Meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 1pm.

Linux

Led by Stew Bottorf This group meets the 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm The Linux SIG encourages using the free Linux or BSD operating systems for desktops, laptops or servers in place of expensive proprietary closed-source operating systems. Linux /
FOSS compromises no quality and allow you to put the extra money into hardware. Find the Linux monthly agenda and more on our SIG Website.

Microsoft Access

Led by Howard Gray Meets the last Tuesday of the month at 7pm. Microsoft Access is the relational database component of Microsoft Office.

MS Office

Led by Peter Summers Meets the 1st Saturday of the month at 1pm. This SIG explores the many uses of the Microsoft Office suite of products that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and One Note. (Microsoft Access will not be included since it has its own SIG). These products have uses in both personal and business settings that will be explored. The depth we go will ranges from basic to more advanced, and is guided by the questions brought to the session by the attendees. The SIG
is meant to introduce you to the software if you are a new user, and increase your skill if you are already familiar with it. The 2016 version of the software will be used. If you have an earlier version, there will still be value in the SIG as most of
the functionality is the same.

Photoshop Elements Novice

Led by Peter Summers Meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at 1pm. This is a daytime beginners forum for the Photoshop Elements product from Adobe. The program has many of the capabilities of the full Photoshop program, and is ideal for those who want
some advanced photo editing tools but do not need the professional level version. The session will be question-and-answer driven, but each meeting the leader will select a topic for the group to explore.

Software Developers

Led by Tom Kiehl This group meets the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7pm. The VB SIG welcomes all members interested in programming in VB as well as other languages. All are invited to bring your coding triumphs and tribulations and share them with the
group. Topics covered are often impromptu discussions that may apply to Visual Basic, PHP, MysQL, C#, SQL Server and other platforms. One thing is for certain though, you’ll learn something new at every meeting of Tom Kiehl’s popular SIG.

The Thinkers’ Salon (formerly Doc’s Café)
